Something different: A classic Gen Z teen movie!
Hey there! I’m super excited to share a bit about my journey as a filmmaker. My second short film, ‘Baby Dyke,’ was a whole new adventure compared to my first film, ‘Judas’ (2020). While ‘Judas’ was an art house piece, ‘Baby Dyke’ is a classic Gen Z teen film. Including internet culture, looking for trends to use and casting famous influencers for cameo rolls. From juggling multiple actors and keeping track of shot continuity to coordinating extras and working with an awesome team, every step has been a fantastic learning experience.
The Concept
‘Baby Dyke’ is a short film made by Gen Z-ers, for Gen Z-ers (though I consider myself more of a Zillennial). My co-director, Manouska Teuns, and I dreamt up this coming-of-age story about two women who spend the night in a club bathroom. Through their conversations, we dive into the issues our generation faces, and yes, we even roast ourselves a bit. It’s an LGBTQ+ story about two friends who fall out of love with their boyfriends and into love with each other.
We poured our hearts into this film, and it paid off—we won Best Overall Production, Best Direction, and Best Cinematography at the Breda University film festival. It was an incredible honor and a testament to the hard work and creativity of our team.
Thanks for stopping by to learn more about my work. Stay tuned for more updates on ‘Baby Dyke’ and other exciting projects!
